Absent mindedly put my Stouffer step wedge emulsion side down on a piece of damp paper and forgot about it. It is now covered in bazillions of tiny fibres. Is there any safe way of cleaning it without altering the density values?

Had a similar problem. I contacted Stouffer and this is what they said:

"Using any type of chemical will change the density values of the steps. If you need to clean it try using a soft cloth or brush. If that doesn’t work try denatured alcohol with cotton very lightly."

I pretty much did what clay recommended - used warm distilled water, some photoflo and wet-squeegeed it with my fingers. Not quite 'good-as-new,' but works 100%.
