I wonder why they don't work on Hasselblad...

Lenses or shutters? If shutters, a lot of people are happy with Flutot's.

Carol serviced a rim-set Compur for me last year and did a great job - very pleasant to talk to, helpful, and the shutter works great again. But, I thought she was scaling back her workload (or stopping altogether) for health reasons. If she's still taking new work that would be great. Last post on this thread was mid-2008:

If it is actually the glass that needs work, the answer is that most repair people will take a lens apart in groups and clean it, very few will strip optical groups down to individual elements, and those that will do this will be very expensive.

Let's not start any rumors. Carol is accepting work. She CLA'd a shutter for me last fall, Oct.-Nov. Go to her web page, Flutot's Camera Repair. Follow her instructions exactly. She will take your shutters and make them like new again.

Studiocarter: You will need to remove the lenses-shutter assembly from the lens boards and then remove the lens cells from the shutter. Send the shutters to Carol Miller at Flutot's Camera Repair. GOOGLE will show you the way. Follow Carol's instructions for sending her your shutters.

There are others who repair old shutters. Essex Camera, perhaps? I'm sure others will post names to follow up. GOOGLE will help in your search.

I emailed her last Apr-May I think and I got my name on a waiting list. Carol took my order sometime in Aug and did a very good job. That gives you an idea of the waiting time.

Or you can try Paul Ebel. I highly recommend him, and so does Jim at Midwest Photo.

I wish that this thread could be transferred to the camera repair and building forum, so that it will be easier to see recommended repairmen all in one place. Actually, an article summarizing what repairmen are good at what makes of cameras or tasks would be really helpful, if someone wanted to go through the posts and compile it.

enjoy

The 'blad shutters are partially dependent on the camera to function. IE:cocking and firing the shutter whereas a leaf shutter is self contained with those functions being external.

Exactly! I really am taken by them. My new darkroom is now finished and two shutters are away getting fixed up. Then I'll order some goop to put onto glass and start shooting.

OK, let's move 'em over there.
