Hi All,

I'm looking at a 80mm T* that has good high speeds but slow low speeds. What am I looking ballpark for a CLA to get it going again? Who services Hassy lenses?

Thanks and take care,

Jim

If you use David Odess be prepared that you could be charged much more than 150$.
I just got my 80mm T* back today that had a few parts replaced, 495$
Mr. Odess will ask for credit card information shipped along with your lens and charge you without consulting you first.
Just an FYI.

jan... what parts were replaced. Those must have been very expensive parts.

He didn't do that to me, but I called him when he recieved it and made it clear to him that I am on very limited income (i'm a professional artist, i live solely off sales of my work, so i live VERY simply) and I cannot afford to pay much more than what his website said, so I limited him to $200...if it needed more work I asked him to just return the lens. I had sent a 150mm CF sonnar. It was $180 with shipping, I think he charged $20 for a mainspring.

The CLA does not include parts. Just ask for a estimate if you don't want to spend much more than that on it.

My daughter sent a 150mm in and decided not to repair it after David determined the extent of repairs needed. Seems like she said there was a minimum shop charge, but I don't remember if she said how much it was.

I've been lucky, except for one back, everything I've sent in has only needed the CLA.

Chris, that's fair business. I have no problem paying for the parts that are replaced but would like to know in advance.

Brian, the parts replaced was Main Spring 25.50, Cocking gear 52.00, Telescoping shaft 65.50 and Cocking shaft 185.15
I made a mistake cocking the shutter which was already cocked so i don't doubt that those parts were needed, just a surprise when i check my account and realize the amount drawn for the repair.

I'd definitely recommend David Odess. I ask him to give me an estimate before doing anything beyond the CLA. I'm the original "cheap guy", but have found Mr Odess very reasonable price-wise, straight-forward to deal with, and also a great repair man. I've gotten a body, two lenses and three backs CLA'd or repaired by him in the last three years. Everything came back functioning perfectly, and was shiny to boot. I've been very happy with his work.

Try Peachtree Camera Repair in Marietta, GA. They are a Hassy factory authorized repair center and have great prices. I've used them for years with great success. They do a lot of work for pros but also support consumer repairs.

Damn,

I think with that much broken i'd have just bought another lens, which could be had for the same or maybe less.

Chris, that was exactly my thinking but, it is to late now. Hope the lens will work well for many years.

That's basically the difference between the lens you just had repaired and a used on you might buy... you now have the best possible chance that the lens will serve you well for a long time.
