Hi there

My Canadian go-to bulk/raw photo chemicals supplier is out of citric acid.

Can you use food grade citric acid in the Kallitype process?

Thanks a bunch in advance,

Murray

U-brew stores - the ones who still do beer.

I buy Citric acid at my local supermarket in the baking section. I only use it for stop bath but it works fine.

Thanks, but there might be some peculiarities in the Kallitype process which require something other than food grade citric acid. Sounds doable, but you never know!

Murray, I get my citric acid from a local DIY wine shop. 1kg bag for about $10. I used to get it from a beer making supply shop, but it went out of business when the owner passed away. Anything like that around you?

Seconding food-grade citric acid. I've bought it from the local supermarket, and it was fine, but it's a lot cheaper in a 5kg bucket from an eBay vendor.

Now that's the kind of ringing endorsements I was looking for!

Thanks a whole bunch!!!!

Murray, I can't remember if I told you the results of my new UV LED exposure unit I DIY'ed. I'm really liking it. I managed to get my kallitype exposures down from 8 minutes to 2:30, and my carbon transfers down from 15 to 4:30. What I really like about it is it doesn't get stinking hot, like my halogen unit.

Thanks for the update. That's quite the reduction...how many light bars did you get?

Yup. Found what is probably several decades worth...a 2Kg bag at a health food store for 24 bucks Canadian.

Thanks for the tip!

I'll have to check the health food stores here as there appear to be many.
