I figure if a few rolls of Delta 3200 which went through 7 airport scanners come out perfect, with one being pushed two stops, then there's very little to worry about. From memory, those films went through scanners at the following airports. London Gatwick, Minneapolis, Aberdeen (SD) x2, London Luton, Alicante x2. 7 scans, five airports in three different countries.
I average 4 to 6 flights a month around Europe, and every three months or so long haul to Asia. Trips to Asia normally involve many connecting flights (typical example from earlier this year - Bucharest->Dubai->Bangkok->Ho Chi Minh->Guangzhou->Changsha->Bangkok->Dubai->Bucharest in just over a (very long) week, with a baggage scan at more or less every stage), I always have film in my hand baggage, and I have never seen any evidence of fogging whatsoever. Asking for a hand inspection is a waste of everyone's time in my view, the scanners are fine (and signs saying so are pretty common in my experience.)
For what it's worth, I've been to Moscow three times in the last 12 months as well, and also a few internal Russian flights, again no problems even there.
