I figure if a few rolls of Delta 3200 which went through 7 airport scanners come out perfect, with one being pushed two stops, then there's very little to worry about. From memory, those films went through scanners at the following airports. London Gatwick, Minneapolis, Aberdeen (SD) x2, London Luton, Alicante x2. 7 scans, five airports in three different countries.

I average 4 to 6 flights a month around Europe, and every three months or so long haul to Asia. Trips to Asia normally involve many connecting flights (typical example from earlier this year - Bucharest->Dubai->Bangkok->Ho Chi Minh->Guangzhou->Changsha->Bangkok->Dubai->Bucharest in just over a (very long) week, with a baggage scan at more or less every stage), I always have film in my hand baggage, and I have never seen any evidence of fogging whatsoever. Asking for a hand inspection is a waste of everyone's time in my view, the scanners are fine (and signs saying so are pretty common in my experience.)

For what it's worth, I've been to Moscow three times in the last 12 months as well, and also a few internal Russian flights, again no problems even there.

Well tim walls : Moscow - as I was in moscow in the 80th there was no way to hand inspection. Additionally I was in Riga (Latvia), in Alma Ata (today Almaty) the capitol of the sowjet republic
Kazakhstan to that time. And my colleagues and I had some further flights back and forth between. And after that we had at least a flight to Duschanbe the capitol of the sowjet republic
Tajikistan. As I remember correct we had the very last flight back to Riga.

On all of this flights I got my films with me ( in my jacket-pockets ) these checkpoints at this time were not the problem because of our official russian watchdog.
A friendly guy stationed in moskow.
But in moscow the security officials at the airport advices all stuff we got, even jackets a.s.o. to scan. So my films were scanned 4 - 5 times.

Yes I know this was the technique out of the 70th - but on the films - you can not imagine - more grainy as 110 pocket - with colors never seen and more foggy as in
John Carpenters " The Fog "

By the time -

just found an other Cinestill with No RED GLOW - just white glowed.

Pretty much all the machines I have seen on my travels are made by these guys:
http://www.smithsdetection.com/index.php

Loads of info on their website on the different products.
Well ...NJH I just came back to your link :
"Smith Protection"

Thanks for additionaly info but let me
ask : Are you sure that this company
is fully integrated in the market of airport
scanners?"

It seams to me ( of cause there is some x-ray scanner stuff ) that they are involved in military support.
Also being bad to avoid film damage .

Smiths Detection as they are called these days are the market leader trendland with something like 70,000 systems supplied, they are a division of a pretty big company. Plenty of brochures about the company on the net with previous accounts etc. The other players seem to be L3, Rapiscan and Morpho.

Well - L3 and Rapiscan you mentioned additional are on my personal schedule since the very beginning of this discussed.
So Smith Detection and Morpho are two further big player. A complexly expanding market - indeed.
Thanks a lot NJH.
