The original campaign was for CineStill 120 but they are stretching for 4x5, I thought I should share this with you guys if anyone is interested in their 4x5. The fund for 120 is reached already

The problem is now multiplied. It seems that 4x5 film requires 7 mil support so that the film does not buckle in holders. Cine films are coated on 5 mil stock generally. And, 120 film needs 2.5 - 4 mil support to allow proper spooling.

So, this might be more difficult and fault laden than just 35mm.

On their indiegogo campaign page, CineStill says their 4x5 is "6-mil-thick on cta".

That would still be a problem for 120 and 220 if true, and it would probably preclude anything bigger than 4x5 - if correct.

This is an old thread but how the heck are they going to get a 4x5 version? It's my understanding that they take 35 and 70mm cine film and remove the rem-jet to ready it for still chemistry. Are they going to be able to get Kodak to sell them a special batch of cut 4x5 sheets? I know they do this for still films in ULF but they already make the film in 8x10 and 4x5 it's less of a big deal to cut the film in odd sizes. I'm more than a little skeptical of ever seeing 4x5 cinestill.

That's without of course asking why anyone would want to shoot this film in LF... I guess it would be helpful with my Travelwide handheld but not helpful enough to shoot indoors under tungsten light.

There was just a new update from CineStill. They show some photos where trucks bring in equipment to their new facility in EBP in Rochester, NY. Sounds like they are getting a custom order film from Kodak and then have their own equipment to process and cut it right next door.

Sheet films are coated on 7 mil support, but 35mm is coated on 5 mil. The thick film prevents buckling in film holders and the latter allows more film in a roll. I cannot see EK coating film on thick support for sheet film.

Has anyone heard any updates of the status of the large format versions and when they'll ship? I think it would interesting to try the 50D in the studio.

The site says retail distribution by 2017 with funders distribution by July 2017 and that's just for 120. Guessing it will be 2018 before we see 4x5.

Why would someone want to shoot an 800 ASA tungsten balanced color negative film in 4x5 (or 35 or 120 for that matter)?

Because if you're under 40 and shooting film these days you're a little nuts.

I am.
