so I've been thinking, if Oppenheimer required the development of the world's first bw Imax film, (and since it was in fact double x), do you think this also gave cinestill an opening to release double x in 120 format?

They didn't have to design a new film. They just had to take an existing film and finish/confection it in a different size.
They might have also been required to adjust the anti-static tools incorporated in it.

they were already getting their special extra Halo versions of the Vison 3 films custom made so it could be sold as 120 - so getting some 5222 slit as 120 size unperfed film should be relatively easy.
