Hi

Could anyone recommend a good mail order firm that can print my Provia 120 transparencies???

How much would you expect to pay for a 20cm x 20cm print?

Thanks in advance,

Sean

Hey Sean.
We have a lab here in SA that specialises in Ilfochrome/Cibachrome. Their results are outstanding. The prices obviously reflect this, but if you want a top notch print, highly recommend them.

I second this recommendation. I have used chromacolour in SA a few times now and the results and quality of their work (both in printing and mounting) are outstanding. You can give them a call to discuss your print if you have specific requirements.

regards.
Thanasis.

Thanks for the information everyone - looks like a really professional set-up, but I must admit that when I started shooting slide I didn't realise just how expensive it would be to get prints! Not sure if any of my work is worthy of spending that much money on! Any ideas?

Cibachrome is a direct positive print from slide & reasonably expensive. Most regular labs can scan your film & then make a normal C print. It won't have the gloss of ciba but should look perfectly OK & be much cheaper.

I seem to remember Kodak or maybe Fuji having a "Super High Gloss" for printing from slides. A nice high gloss finish from the examples I've seen, but not the wonderful depth that you get from Cibas. However as goldie said, a good alternative if you want to save some $$.

Cibachrome is the gold standard when it comes to making prints from transparencies, but as said above conventional scan and print by minilabs will do a pretty good job in the hands of an experienced operator

Hi Sean,
I just had a 4x5 tranny scanned and a Fuji Flex print done from it at 16x20. I t was done by Bond Imaging in Melbourne. A really beautiful job. They scan it and before printing, get rid of any dust specks etc. The scan cost $37, the print cost $38 and express post delivery $22. The cost for cibachrome (which they used to do) was around $80-$90 about 5 years ago.

The new Fuji Flex paper is a high gloss surface.

Bond' will deliver anywhere in OZ and they do a very good job of protecting the goods. I have sent them trannies to process and they come back in 2 days, prints are a little longer. Give them a call on (03) 9429 1299 and ask them if they'll email you a link for their catalogue with prices.

Cheers

Mike

Just an update for those who happen on this forum still looking for Cibachrome printing; as of Feb 2010 Chromacolour will close its doors. The very professional Peter has suggested Sandy Barnard from Dead Link Removed one of the few remaining practitioners in Australia.

Where can you actually buy the cibachrome/ilfochrome paper in Australia from?

What about the clear base stuff?

The clear base material was called CIBATRANS. Once my shed is built I will be hand printing Ciba from 35mm through to 8 x 10 trannies. Max size will be 20 x 24 inch. I have a processor for RA4 as well. There was a dip and dunk E6 on fleabay I was seriously looking into getting. Not a big market, batch runs I think. Freight from the states was not that bad, just the shed to store it in. I propose to have thinks running within 3-6 months. Council pending. I cut my teeth on Cibachrome in the 80's. The lab I worked in specialized in Ciba and we did a lot of murals for display. Hope this helps

That's all good, but where are you going to get the Ilfochrome/Trans/etc stock from? As in so you can print or shoot with it in camera yourself?

I already have 40L worth of E6 CD.

Has anyone here ordered any prints from them before?
Also the web links seem not to work, which is unfortunate.
