Chosing a paper for a particular Lith Print style

I've been going around and around in circles on this one, I'm trying to decide what paper to try...

So I've decided to try something like the first lith prints I saw in person which are Anton Corbijns and can be seen here on his website; http://www.corbijn.co.uk/photo_brown.htm

Can anyone APUG lith expert please suggest a currently available paper and developer/dilution if possible to achieve this type of image.

it looks to me the fotospeed lith paper. about the delutions... lith is not a consistent thing as the regular silver print developer - so u have to experiment. those pics that u talk about seems to me towards very deluted lith, it also doesnt show too much blacks dots (that personally i love very much), so the fog resistant probably added in significant quantities.
as a starting point i would say to delute 20ml +20ml on each litre (if u use fotospeed developer)
and add as a starting point 20ml of each fog resistant.

I've had very good results with Forte papers - just about any Forte paper. Fortezoo Museum is beautivul in any developer.
I've used MACO Lith developer so far, which seems to work fine.

thanks guys. I have found a interview in dutch which I got translated and he says its Oriental Seagull done by a company in London called Downtown Darkroom who coincidentally are located in the same building as Silverprint.

There is very little in Tim Rudmans book about Oriental Seagull unfortunatly.

Have you used this paper?

Do you have issue 32 of Black & White Photography? Tim mentions a little bit about Oriental papers in his article about lith printing.

It says:

"Oriental
Japan. Available worldwide. One of the finest, although expensive, enlarging papers made. Lith prints easily and well.

Oriental VC FB: Not unlike the old Sterling lith but slightly less graphic.

Oriental G: (Grades 2, 3 &4) Coffee or putty hues to red-brown in selenium."

yes, I read this most brief summary. Its a bit frustrating to get these articles month by month. I wish Ailsa did a separate pullout supplement for Tim Rudman with all the info together.

Oriental went through a phase where their materials were not exported from Japan, while the Company was getting itself back on an even footing. Tim's book may well have been published during that time. My favourite is Forte Polywarmtone which is capable of producing some very delicate colouration.

Even if you knew what developer that company uses, you probably wouldn't get the same images. Lith is not that easy to 'copy'. Why don't you try the Maco Lith or Fotospeed lith and see where that gets you?
