Hi all...

Just a basic question here:

I'm experimenting with making a homemade lith paper developer. I know I can use one of the glycols to dissolve and store the hydroquinone in, but I was wondering if I could use 99% isopropyl alcohol as a substitute? Would I need to put a trace of sulfite in there as a preservative? Same question with the glycol...or would the glycol or alcohol preserve the hydroq. by itself?

Thanks in advance...Paul

I have used propylene glycol. I don't think the alcohol will work as well because it is more hygroscopic. It has been a very long time since I tried the alcohol, so I'm not absolutely certain. IIRC, the OH on the alcohol is more reactive than on the glycol as well.

To what end? Hydroquinone as a crystal is very stable and keeps for years.

Jim...

I'm making a lith developer consisting of a solution A + solution B.
