Chemical exhaustion

Ok : the manufactor's advice that a solution of stock chemical will do about X-number of rolls of film or paper But how the heck do you figure out when you cut the solution like one to three and then use 36 oz's of mix so how many sheets [lets say 4x5] can you do ????

The amount of film that a given volume of stock solution will develop doesn't change with the dilution, it just takes longer to develop the film.
For example, if the directions say that the minimum stock to process 1 8x10 (80 square inches of film) is 9 ounces, then you can mix the 9 ounces into 3 parts of water for a total of 36 oz and have enough developer to handle 4 sheets of 4x5. Assuming you use all 36 ounces.
