Finally trying out my nice new paterson darkroom trays. The problem is with a liter of chemical in them it barely covers the bottom! Does anyone find that they need to mix more for these trays?

I used to use 1.25 litres in mine.

If you're agitating constantly you don't need to submerge prints under 5cm of solution. One cm is enough. Just watch the developer capacity.

Well I use 2 litres in 20x16 trays, so 1.25 litres is about right for 16x12 trays, any less (minimum about 800ml) is fine for short printing sessions but you need care ensuring the print surface is covered all the time.

On a long run (printing session) with Fibre based papers I top up the developer.

I was trying to be practical, since I have quart datatainers. I guess I can switch to the 1/2 gallon containers.

The half gallon should be fine in the 12x16 trays, because that is what I use for the 11x14 trays that I nest inside the Paterson 12x16 trays.
Helps reduce spills and, strangely enough, actually speeds cleanup.

I like two liters. If you can't use that much in a printing session, then you could get by with less, but it's a pain to deal with too little liquid in a large tray...
