How does one check the strength of a stored developer? I had LC29 stored back after using it once - can I perform a test on a piece of film with lights on to determine whether it still has any potency?

some say it works well,
other say it does not.
the best way to test
your developer is to use it
to develop a test roll or sheet of film.

How long has it been stored? Most developers have limited shelf life and you may be able to look that up for this developer.

Yes, bring the developer to temp, place a snip of fully flashed film in it, and gently agitate every 30 seconds or so. If it turns full black in half the development time or less, you are good to go. If not, it's bad.

Thanks everyone. I tested the developer on a piece of film, it turned black. I need to time it now to compare it to it's recommended development duration.

why not buy some control strips?
