These are analogue cameras, and can be refilled/reused, if you're a bit handy.

Reload with your favorite B&W.

I've re-used "single-use" cameras. It's not too difficult, and they are cheap enough that you aren't risking much. Actually, you get what you pay for, and anything after that is a bonus.

Cracking one of these open and re-sealing it so it remains waterproof may be a bit more challenging, but I'm sure not much more.

Don't bother. They have no flash. A flash is an absolute necessity for underwater shots (if you want to see the real colors, that is).

I used one on vacation a few years ago. Aside from the scratched lens (a common problem in single-use cameras), the images were almost all "black and blue".

My suggestion? Go d*g*t*l. Canon makes some nice P&S models, all come with flash and there are 30m housings available for almost all of them at around $150. The photos you'll get will have real colors (you do need to be right on top of your subject - under 2 ft because of the weak built in flash) and there's no worry about running out of film.

I stand corrected. That is the first one I have ever seen with a flash. I never understood why Kodak and Fuji made all their regular single-use cameras with flashes but left them off the underwater versions, where the flash would have been useful.

Of course, if you just want a kayaking camera, any of them will do fine. My interest is sub-$3K underwater shots of coral and fish while snorkeling. I have thought about a Nikonos rig, but from what I read, they're "needy"...lots of hard to find o-rings to be replaced regularly, and some issues with the construction that make the Nikonos V the only really viable choice.
