I may invest in that leather jacket for the camera. Seems very well made and will offer good protection to the camera. I also see that APUG's David Bram is featured in their gallery!

wow .. those cameras look great, i mean the design too as far as i can understand from pictures ...
would be glad to have the wholeplate version one day dedicated for collodion process (and some other contact prints too actually).
seems they have made some very nice accessories too ...

Vic, they work outstandingly well. I know there are some folks who view these as cheap knock-off of the Phillips designs. While they are a copy of this legendary camera, they truly are extremely well made and engineered. I also hear that D. Phillips helped them out initially to get started as he no longer makes these cameras. (testament to him being as truly generous person!) I have only had my Chamonix 4x5 a few weeks, but they are a joy to use. Super light, solidly made and moreover...RIGID when locked. Get one now at the reasonable prices offered before they start to get more expensive. You will not regret it.

i have heard about Philips cameras but never saw one in real i have to admit... i guess that design is employed in some other cameras design principles (like canham maybe?!) ... anyway, at least from pics, those chamonix cameras look far from being cheap in any way ...
i have more questions ...
those knobs : they are geared movements or typical loose/tighten knobs and then moving by hand ?
the movements and the operation of the camera : how it is compared to say ebony camera smoothness/quality if u r familiar (is one of my main concidiration in my vision of LF/ULF camera)...
ya i would like to make this move any time soon ... still not decided about the format ... 5x7 is ok, and so is 8x10 .. but just some time ago i descovered the possibility of the old wholeplate option that is offered by ebony and i see chamonix too now ... in short, im a bit unclear at the moment as to what in particularly fits my needs and desires from those LF/ULF ... some reducing backs are possible maybe, how to get materials etc etc .. many things to sort out ... hope soon ...

No! Canham cameras employ none of the Phillips/Chamonix design approaches.

Not correct; Dick will be making a batch of 4x5s later this year. It may be his last.

I like the bar that goes under the bellows to keep it sagging. Was that Philips design? Better than putting empty film boxes under the bellows.
$3K for an 8x10. I better start saving....

I have the 5x8" reversible back version, here (www.vasina.net/?p=94) you can find first impressions shortly after I received it back in February 08. I'll put up a follow-up in a few days after half a year of using it. But in short, I'm still very happy I bought this one.

Over at the LFPhoto forum, Hugo has said that a 11x14 camera will be available this time next year. They are gathering suggestions from possible buyers on the features required/wanted.

hi jiri.. thanks alot for pointing to your review ... makes things very clear about the camera.... and it seems that the wholeplate format, if this is indeed what im gonna prefer, is very similar to your 5x8... a clever idea by the way, more panoramic and cutting 8x10 films those people in china seem to make a really good thing here ...
