There was a very good hour long documentary on British T.V. about Chambre Hardman a couple of years ago you may be able to see on Youtube.

Thanks, I will look for it.

Love his darkroom. Functionally, not so different from all of ours. The clutter level looks just about right. A D5 enlarger in mine instead of a D2.* An LPL easel. Stacked boxes of paper. A paper trimmer. The safelights these days may now be LEDs instead of bulbs, but the light's still red...

Needs to do something about those light leaks around the window, though.

* Wonder if he has any spare carriers I could use??

He employed several hand-colourists who were "home-workers" living in various places around Liverpool and very good they were too. A B&W print would be sent out via the very good tramcar public transport system and returned suitably coloured to his studio the same way in a very short time.

It is a fascinating place where visitors are allowed to handle various stuff while getting a conducted tour. It really takes you back to another era of photography and life that existed pre-World War II although he continued to work after the war.

Well worth a visit and free if you are a member of the National Trust organisation.
