What's the max bellows extension without the extension rail?

The camera is at the studio but I'll check the next time I'm there.

In post #19 I stated that the diagonal of the image area is 437mm. In post #20 it is stated that the diagonal is 452mm. The actual usable image is always smaller than the format stated size due to the film being 1/32 or there about shorter than the format size so that it will fit into the film holder, the film holder having a lip that the film fits under which hold it in place and reduces the image area.

Now for the math. 1 inch = 25.4 millimeters. A² + B² = C²

√317 = 17.804493814764855594546558781474 inch * 25.4 = 452.23414289502733210148259304945 truncated to 452mm the value stated in post #20.

In post #19 I dropped the digits to the right of the decimal point, my mistake.

Any lens that produces an image circle of 442mm will just cover with no movements, a lens with an image circle of 452mm will cover with a little room for movements.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I'm going to let the camera go and try to fund another view or tech camera purchase. Also, I believe I've found the missing knob for the lens board.

That said, pm me any offers. I'll even include a custom storage/carrying case I made from a great piece of vintage Samsonite luggage in which the camera fits perfectly and is well protected.

Late to the discussion, but that's a very nice looking case.

It's a fine camera, quick to setup and straightforward to use, although lacking in some movements (front tilt/swing/shift -- at least mine doesn't have any of these). Richard Ritter in VT shimmed the ground-glass to work with my Sterling 11x14 holders. I have geared rise/fall which works great. Like Thom said, even with a 450mm I find I don't use the extension all that often. I had no luck trying to find an orphaned rear extension and also had Richard Ritter build a replacement. Using a 360mm lens would give you a very nice moderate wide and you'd miss the rear extension even less than with a 450, which is about the normal focal length.
