If the Chinese would simply unpin their currency then the actual currency values would be a lot more realistic and we might all have a much clearer view of what the world economy is actually doing. Just thought I'd point that out

No need to unpin the currencies.

China could instead just call in all it's notes and buy the US as a province.

The vendors are to blame for a lot of these ripoffs.

I'm happy with my experiences with KEH so far, but I went to order a US$16 instruction booklet on a camera...and faced almost $40 in shipping.

Screw you, boys. I'm looking online for that now.

Yeah...but the only problem is that if China were to call in all their notes today (as I'm sure they wish they could now!), they would be next to worthless, as the market would be flooded and the value would be next to nil.
They screwed us, but we screwed them back in a way...we're both linked to each other and neither can strong arm the other now...

And therefore we will not be going to war with china any time soon, global interdependence is a good thing.

when i have sent something to canada i used the postal service and always sent the tracking number to the buyer in canada. I was always surprised how long it took to arrive. the charges aren't cheap, but then i figured two cost for serivce , one for us and the other for canada.

I can' image why a lens would cost $80 for shipping, even with the heavest box i have sent it couldn't have been over 50 ( i really don't remember, but paper and chemistry is heavy much heavier than one lens.)

USPS itself is very reasonable, it's the shipper adding on handling fees that make it expensive. USPS/Canada Post does take longer and I suspect a lot of the time is taken up in Canada Customs.

I'm sure there are great bargains on importing film into Canada, but right now I'm selling HP5 35mm 36ex at $6.16 a roll. It's almost always in stock, and I provide free Canadian shipping. I've also got a great special on Multigrade FB in regular or WT in the most popular size boxes.

I've also been a strong supporter of this website for years, both as a member and advertiser.

So it might seem cheaper if you import it, but if you buy in Canada you don't get any broker surprises, and support those who are trying to make things happen in Canada. Plus we're spending our profits, (as if there were any) back into the Canadian economy.
