Carrying my Pentax Spotmeter V?

I am using a camera strap to hold it on my side. Any better way?

A large pocket, mine lives in my backpack or sometimes a coat pocket.

Zone VI used to offer a leather holder that worked well, but looked perhaps dangerously close to a gun holster. I use my coat pocket or film holder satchel.

I've dropped mine a couple of times, and now am trying a fanny pack. Probably a holster would be better, but that would probably cause problems in our paranoid, police state.

In the pocket is best, I have the Zone IV meter and case and would recommend the pocket unless you are in a safe area, where ever that is. Keeping it on a cord isn't a great idea because it will be banged into or bang into something.

I am worried about it falling out of the pocket. The cord is short enough that it won't move anywhere.

Usually jam mine into a pocket, a back pocket.

Even though I have a camera strap on mine, I don't wear it around my neck. I found that with the meter around my neck, it has a propensity for slamming into my freshly exposed film holder (or any thing else you may be working on for that matter) when bending over to put the film holder back in my bag. In addition, The light meter is a tool being used far less then any other essential component (camera, dark cloth, etc...), thus having it around your neck is not essential. the only thing that is used less, or some cases the same amount, is your shooting notebook. Your not going to hang that around neck... are you?

Novel approach.

You could try this.........................just leave the Glock at home.

I bought a small dog collar that snaps together, then press a button on each side to release. The only thing I saved from the dog collar was the clip.

Many camera bags use the same setup.

Then my wife bought some narrow material that looks like it would be used as trimming on drapes or a womens belt. She cut the length of material in half and ran one end through each loop on the dog collar clip.

Then she ran one loose end through the loop on the pentax V and closed the loops with her sewing machine. The last end she made a loop big enough I can run my belt through the loop.

I also wear a small camera case, just big enough for the meter that runs through my belt also. I carry the meter in the case until I need it. I can't drop the meter as we made the total length short enough the meter can't reach the ground if I drop it.

The dog collar clip let's me free the meter from my belt if I need to meter in such a way the strap isn't long enough.

Long story, but it works extremely well and the meter has never hit the ground. Also, it is compact enough I can get in and out of the car, buckle and unbuckle my seatbelt and the meter and case never in the way.

You will take more photographs if you carry it around your neck against your chest, without a case front, ie. ready for instant use, considerably less, if it's in a case over your shoulder or stuffed out of the way in a pocket or backpack. Depending on your activity this might not always be possible but when it is, do it. A trial will prove my point.

I carry my camera in Tamrac case on a belt (like a fanny pack). My meter fits in the case's front pocket.

I'm doing this right now, and it does not affect my street shooting. I just meter, set the SLR, and shoot.

I have a plastic clip on the strap of mine that I can put through my belt loop, or the hole in my jacket zipper, or my camera bag strap. Them I just put the meter in my pocket or one of the open pockets of my camera bag. If it falls out, it's still attached to me and I don't lose it.

I bought a cheap small digi camera pouch with a belt clip attached and cut the bottom out for the handle and just dropped the meter in and closed the pouch. It felt good to be able to dismember the digi camera case for a better purpose. Still might look suspiciously like a gun but up in Canada its probably the last thing people would think. Of course I usually have the camera gear on me as well!

I carry my Pentax Spotmeter in the side pocket of one of those geeky photographer's vests. The pocket is deep enough to allow the velcro fastened flap to secure.

I use a Kinesis vertical accessory pouch A126 for my Pentax Spot meter. You can wear on a your belt, their belt or clip a camera strip to the D rings and wear it over your shoulder. Check out the rest of their gear. My favorite is the belt which I can attach different pouches for lenses or 120/220 magazines and other items. I leave one empty pouch to insert the lens or magazine in while I am change to another lens or magazine - this feature I like. Oh, you can use the belt for their backpack. I used this combination when I traveled to Czech Republic and Germany.

Gordy's wrist strap (APUG sponsor) for me. I can carry it around my wrist, or in a jacket pocket. Or in a purse, which is obviously not an option for some. -Laura
