Hey guys, I came across a local garage sale with a guy selling some Contax mount Carl Zeiss lenses. The two he had were a Sonnar 85mm f2.8 ad a Distagon 28mm f2.8. I know Carl Zeiss has a very good reputation and I was wondering what a fair offer for these would be? Keep in mind that these are basically mint and even come with leather carrying pouches.

Both of those are quite nice lenses....were they marked T*? Those both run the gamut from $300 to $800 depending on condition.

Yeah, both of them are marked with T*. What does that signify?

T* = that they are multi-coated lenses. I presume these are for the RTS/167MT/S2 line of modern Contax cameras. I've got the 28mm, it's a nice lens that I'd probably want to get $250 for if I were to sell it (which I may, as I just got a 25mm German). I don't know about the 85mm, but I'd expect it to be more than the 28mm which was, I believe, a more common lens.

Actually I have been watching both these on KEH lately.
Prices for KEH bargain condition are starting around $325.00usd for the 85 2.8 Sonnar depending if it is the made in Japan or Germany versions and also if it is MM or AE versions (MM allows shutter priority and was a newer version than AE)

The 28 2.8 runs about 100.00usd more

here is the KEH page

Keep in mind that those prices include a 6 month warranty from KEH.

The 85 Sonnar is supposed to be real nice performer and compact.

Both lenses are top notch lenses.
If you can get under $500 for both you're doing well.
MM versions have largest f-number (numeric not the aperture size) in green.
