I once was on a bush flight that had a really low weight limit for baggage. I ended up putting all my camera equipiment in my cargo pants pockets. Also, was wearing a couple of shirts and sweatshirts under my jacket. Of course, the flight was delayed 1/2 hour, so I sweated in the desert, and they didn't weigh the bags at all....

That said, you don't want to wear the pants noted above through an airport. The magnets will set off the metal detectors/security alarms.

I don't buy it. A lens in the pocket is going to look like a lens in the pocket. If the pocket does not bulge the legs of your trousers will and you will end up looking like you got horse thighs. The more crap you stuff in your pockets the wider you are going to look. Regular cargo pockets at least would look like full cargo pockets, and your body would not look like it was bloating up. Some times I wonder who comes up with these ideas.

I tryed something like this, but once I loaded up the pockets and tryed to walk the crotch of my pants ended up at my knees. I looked like some of the teenagers you see walking around in todays latest fashion. I now use a vest intended for hunting and fishing, but even that gets a little heavy once I stuff a 4X5 Graflex in one of the pockets.

I don't see a lot of utility in the idea, either. The shape and bulk of anything in the pockets, other than a sheet of paper, would be obvious. Besides, carrying things at the front of the leg would be uncomfortable, at best.

O.K., I'll bite. How do you get stuff in and out of the INSIDE pockets? Drop your trousers, reach inside, then pull 'em back up?

I have a pair, similar, but made by Dockers. They have two very small, black zippers along the outside seam of the pants legs. They also have a small zipper inside the pockets themselves.

Aw c'mon admit it, you're diversifying... these pants are your invention to try to pay for part of the film bill. I personally dig the teflon coating thing... I'll take three if I can stuff my Sinar in 'em!

OK. It's probably not a good idea. However, I didn't have LF lens in mind; only some of the other cluttere.
Thanks for the comments.

Is that a 80-200 zoom in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

I think the real point of these would be for travelling--documents, passport, extra money, etc. Sorta like a built-in money belt. I don't see putting an 80-200mm 2.8 zoom in a pocket!

There were pants sorta like this that were made with special pockets along the thighs for palm-pilots.

Nice triple word score! =)

Thank you very much. But to really understand this thinking man's riposte, you have to go over to the Joke Thread and pick up this thread from an Ed Sukach post, then google the word and read the comment above my original post.

It's very funny, but you really have to work for it. Kind of like analog humor versus the digital kind...
