Can't get my head around spring back

I just cannot get my head around the designing of the film back. For some reason this has stymied me.

If anyone has drawn up plans for a 7x17 or 5x12 back would you mind forwarding it to me so i can see what you did.

My 12X20 Korona with a Burke and James back had the same design as my 4X5 Zone VI and my 8X10 Deardorff. The design is consistent throughout.

SO I should be able to use the 5x7 back as a guide? Cool. I was concerned that there would need to be some sort of extra support.

If you go all the way to the bottom of that page you will see a list of sketches. You are looking for the sketches labelled "Back (inside View)", "Back (Outside View)", and "Groundglass Frame".

Alter the interior dimensions to match your film holder and the outer dimensions to fit your camera. Use your 5x7 back for reference.

As long as you have the registraion distances correct, you should not have much problem, the design of a spring back is really one of the simplest forms of backs for cameras, you just need to make sure when designing that the GG sits in the same plane as the film in the film holder so that you get true focus..
