Hi to every one

my name is simon & i am a avid film user for 26 years . I now work as a professional since 1998 , after enjoying this wonderful art as a ameteur for 18 years .

One of the main reasons i turned professional was , that i wanted to keep film traditions alive , and offer my clients in my opinion , convetional photography second to none , regarding image qualities .

Cheers Simon / Si to friends .

Welcome to APUG Si. There are lots of APUGers in the UK so you're in good company.

welcome to the club. i was going to give you a list of users to look out for, but i don't have an hour to compile such a list. just kidding. hope you get something out of the site, and if you do, consider subscribing.

Hi Simon, welcome to APUG from Hawaii. I'm glad you are a dedicated film user, you will fit in here perfectly.

Another Brit? Oi', waht is this film world coming to?

Mucho welcome to our cousin across the pond from Florida.

Hi Simon. Welcome from the wild west.

Hi Simon, welcome from Germany!
Which part of the UK you are living in?

Hello. Welcome from the Isle of Wight. For our US friends, that's the little bit hanging off the bottom of England which you might just be able to see on your maps.

Actually, I know where it is, because Baxter Bradford lives close to there, and I asked him where it was. :D

Hello Simon - I'm a Mancunian (I must be - I'm a City fan!) currently living over the border in the wilds of West Yorkshire - Mytholmroyd, to be precise, although we're moving to North East Scotland in August...

Welcome to the APUG site. I'm a relative newcomer and have found these forums to be an endless source of inspiration.

Euan

Welcome from Staffordshire (about 30 miles down the M6)

hi Steve Smith

how is that beautiful isle these days . i didnt realise you are from Ryde ? Last time i was there was in 1983 , visiting a mate of mine who i served with in the paras , & he actually lives in Ryde on jellico rd/close , Ashley Sinclaire , you may no him ? He now serves with the french foriegn legion .

simon

Hello Simon.

I don't think I know the person you mentioned although the name does sound vaguely familiar. If he is of a similar age to me (41), we may have attended the same schools. Mayfield school is about 100 yards from the end of Jellicoe Road and Ryde High school is about half a mile further on - I attended both.

The Isle of Wight is still very nice but it is suffering, like everywhere else probably, from every spare tiny piece of land having far too many rabbit hutch sized houses built on it. Luckiliy, most of the Island is designated as agicultural or National Trust/AONB and can't be built on.

Steve Smith.

p.s. Where are you?

hi steve

yep he would be 42 , same as me . Is mothers name is Pat Sinclaire , but she remarried around 87 .

glad the isle is still beautiful , had some good times there , use to go to a place called dimes after the pub in ryde , i think thats how it was spelt Dimes ?

simon

Hello.

Sounds like he would have been a year above me at school as I'm 41 and was one of the oldest in the class (birthday in September).

I don't remember anywhere called Dimes in Ryde, was that a disco/nightclub?

That's me confused then!! Are there two Isle of Wight counties or did I get the location wrong?

Steve.

The one in Virginia is the only one I know of (only because I live in Virginia), but its very possible there is an Isle of Wight county in another state.

No, I think I was confused. There is a New Hampshire and I thought Isle of Wight County was near to or part of that. The 'real' Isle of Wight used to be part of Hampshire until we became a county in 1971.
Add this to the other English names such as Portsmouth, Southampton, Newport, Sussex, etc. which appear in either Virginia and New England and the confusion increases!!

I can remember my mother showing me an old photograph, probably 1920's, of a distant family member who emigrated to Isle of Wight County and set up a grocery store. I will have to see if I can find it.

Yeah, Virginia borrowed a lot of names from the English. Especially the eastern part of the state. Don't forget Gloucester, Surry (spelled differently), Middlesex, Northumberland, York, Brunswick and all of the other counties and towns named after specific people like Price William County, King George County and on and on.
