Hey everyone, I have a Canonet 28 that is really clean except someone left a battery in the compartment and it burst, corroding off the battery wire in the holder.

I have been trying to soldier it back, but having no luck; the delicate wires tend to wick a brown, gooey substance up and it spoils the connection between that and the batter holder.

Now, the camera being an aperture priority/automatic type, its pretty useless without the battery.

Anyone have experience replacing the wire or re-soldiering it in place on this type camera?

The brown gooey stuff is probably rosin from the solder.
You may be better off removing the top cover also & fishing a wire through the camera & resoldering it.
The other problem is the battery contact itself is very difficult to solder to. I might try some conductive liquid from an electronics shop, Sometimes it's used for bridging gaps in pc boards.
