I picked up a Bell&Howell/Canon Canonet19 at a flea market for 5 bux.

The shutter worked fine until I moved the self timer now the shutter will not open. Everything seems to work film advance/shutter button seems to work properly. Just the shutter will not open and the self timer lever will not move now.

I have tried to get the front element off to see if I can get into it clean and look at it. I cannot get or fine any info on how to get it apart.

Anybody know how this comes apart or any other tips?

Thanks

This thread is Canonet 19 specific http://www.kyphoto.com/classics/forum/messages/2/14219.html

Most likely the self timer has just not finished it's cycle and tripped the shutter. I just fixed one of these cameras last week. Mine however had a shutter that would not trip at all. I did take the leatherette off and the assembly off to monkey around with it. In you case, I would think that is unnecessary until you know a little more. It will be easier to get the rear element out to get to the shutter. toothpick it and see if it trips. If so, don't touch the timer anymore, though you may find you get the same result at slow speeds.

I got the timer to free up and the shutter works fine again. Now the apeture blades are stuck I have to find out to get into them to clean them. I hope I can go through the front.

I would suggest removing the back element
