This is my first time using this printer, picked up two of them second hand. This one works the other doesn't. I took the ink cartridges out of the non working one and put them into the working one. It's almost like the photos print out partially inverted, The shadows are all light in color. Is this a color profile issue or is there something wrong with the printer? PS. I'm using gimp for editing and printing.

welcome to photrio...

i recently had to shut down my darkroom and joined the digital world... i have yet to purchase a printer, so really can't help you.

i send all my work out to a print lab because i've been unwilling to face the myriad issues of doing your own printing - it's not cheap but far less headaches for me.

just wanted you to know that your plea was heard and someone more capable will respond.

good luck.

I still have my darkroom, but I wanted a way to make quick prints as well. Hopefully I can figure it out.

If you do not have the latest driver from Canon download it here
In the software there should be a Maintenance set of test. Run the print head check.
Ink cartridges that have sat for an extended period of time will separate fluid fro dye or pigment therefore they should be shaken vigorously prior to use. Run the deep clean head cleaning cycle until the head check shows full patterns for each color.
If the head is clean and printing good patterns and the colors are still off its a color profile issue.

Thank you for the tips!

Update: The issue was a clogged print head. I had to soak it in hot water and run multiple cleanings to get it to clear up

I wonder how much those "multiple cleanings" cost Elijah ? I've done precisely one, in five years, with my Canon.

I basically used up whatever ink was left in the cartridges, this printer was sitting unused for a few years so the ink must have congealed in the print head.
