I took delivery today of a black Canon FX. If I am reading the date code in the film chamber correctly, it was made in 1966. It would have been late in the run because it's replacement, the FT QL, came out in 1966. What's special about it? It's black. From what I have read, very few black FX cameras were made. Does anyone know how many? There are apparently some fake FX cameras which just have black paint over chrome. Mine has some braising but does not look bad for a camera that is 58 years old. The shutter fires nicely but I have not tested the meter. The seals are, if course, dried up. If I have the nerve I may ask my repairman to work on it.

If you're on Facebook, join the Canon Historical Society group and ask your question there. There are a few collectors on that site who record serial numbers of many Canon SLR's. They may be able to give you an idea on how many black FX cameras were made.
