Hi, after various issues with three Canon A-1 bodies from three different vendors, I decided it is time to get an all mechanical tank Canon FTb or EF body. My main requirement is that all functions working properly, including the lightmeter. Ideally it will be black, but chrome is probably fine as well. I'm based in SF Bay area. Thanks.

Hi, just a thought. There is a Canon AT-1 for sale in the classifieds now. That is a delightful camera, though it does have electronics. It's match needle metering, just like the FTb. But, it's small and light.

Can your A-1's not be repaired? They are very capable cameras, I used a pair in the 80's for commercial work and they served me very well. The addition of the A2 winder makes for an excellent combo. The FTB is a great camera when properly serviced which most need. You do have the mercury battery problem but that can be fixed with an adapter. The FTB was my very first brand new camera, black finish, handpicked from the store stock shipment where I worked at the time, used it for years till I upgraded to the A-1's.

I will definitely keep and service the A-1 (I primarily use in Av mode). But at the same time, I would like to get a FTB as second body, which is not battery dependent (except meter).

One year I bought four EF camera bodies on eBay and I didn’t get one properly working camera, though the vendors all said they were working.Apparently there’s a common capacitor fault with the camera affecting the meter and certain shutter speeds. At one time or another I have had all of Canons fd cameras and for the past 10 years or more I’ve been using a t90.I find that any of the F1’s are reliable too

I have an EF I'm willing to part with, and i'm in the Sacramento area. Close enough to take a look at it before you purchase. send me a message if you're interested.
