An unusual and somewhat rare lens. Highly regarded. I used on once back when it first was introduced. Sharp and contrasty, even wide-open. As for value, 1500 euro seems a bit high. i put it closer to 1000 euro. But now that it can be used on many digital cameras with the proper adaptor, it may well go higher than 1000 euro.

KEH lists FDn 100mm f/2 from $1560-$1890. I imaging $1500 Euros for the 24L is pretty darn low. Prices are crazy for these lenses.

A FD 24mm 1.4L recently reached over 10,000 Euros on eBay. 26 bids at the end. Same lens as yours newer FD mount. I don't think that is normal but, I have seen them offered for better than 2000Euros. So 1500 is probably too low. Prices in the USA tend to be lower on a lot of stuff.

This lens is highly sought after for use in cinema/video shooting. All the Canon L glass and especially this one has exploded in value; I'd suggest contacting a lens rehouser like Duclos and ask them how much the lens is worth before letting it go, you might be really surprised at what people will pay for this lens.

I wonder how much better than the Canon FD 24mm f2 lens ( that's a first-class wide-angle lens), I've owned for about 25years the Aspheric one is, and if for my modest photographic needs it would make much difference because it seems to me they sell now for such astronomical prices, not so much for their intrinsic value as optics but more for their rarity value.

It's a highly sought after lens due to it's adaptability (ie SLR flange distance) & excellent optical design. Perhaps more importantly it has a physical aperture ring and a 'correct' focus ring orientation. An excellent combo for cine uses, as already evidenced.

AFAIK there isn't another lens with the same combination of features. Benji mentioned an f/2 version but coming from Nikon-land I can say there is a huge difference between the optical performance of the 24mm f2 and 24mm f1.4 Nikkors. Nikon's 24mm f1.4G is as close as it gets to the FD 24mm f1.4 but, it lacks an aperture ring and is considered backwards in terms of it's focus ring compared to the Canon. Similar modern mirrorless lenses have the same electronic control limitations and are often less adaptable due to the shorter flange distance.

Happy hunting

i still need some time with this lense
but ill contact you when i am ready to sell it thx.

Hi Alex,

I am very interested in purchasing this lens and can make you a good offer. I signed up for this forum, but it says I need to have at least 20 messages before sending a user a private message on the forum (which is understandable). I am not sure if this is allowed, but please reach out to my email at jonathan.f.lizcano@gmail.com if and when you may be interested in selling the 24 aspherical. I understand if the first poster has priority, but it's always good to check to see if other potential buyers might make you a better offer. Apologies if it's against the forum rules to write in email addresses in the post. I will remove it if that is the case.

Thanks : )

Hello Alex.
I just saw you post regarding the Canon Fd 24mm. Do you still have it and if so are you selling it?

There’s a live auction at over €10k right now, item number 194790519984. My astonishment at that price led me to this thread via Google. So what’s the big deal about this lens? Yes, I’ve read cinematographers want it, but why?

Is the one on eBay optically the same as the “nFD” model?

Thanks for your email. For some reason the 24mm are rare and so the ones that are around are getting lots of money. They are very fast lenses and aspherical too. There is a website dedicated to how they are made and an explanation of their quality,
Google alien Canon FD.

where was the auction for the 24mm?

Yes, I’ve read cinematographers want it, but why?

Adding to all the previous observations, a 24mm lens provides an ideal 'normal' FOV on a cinema subminiature format like Super 35. The crop from full-frame also serves to enhance apparent performance.

Too rich for my blood, but hopefully the lens will go into production and not speculation.
