I recently purchased a Canon F1n fitted with a standard finder pentaprism .One of the release buttons has been pushed into the body and the glass window for the meter is broken .Can anyone tell me how to open the prism/ viewfinder body .I have removed the 4 screws and the glued plate but it still seems to be solid . I have looked in the repair manual but i think that that is a slightly different finder

If its the new F1: reemove the thin, black metal cover from the ocular (where you would look into the finder), its glued in, use a toothpick or similar. You'll find 4 more screws underneath. They might sit VERY firm and the small star heads are soft...
Then, around the release buttons are small rings: These have to be screwed out, too. Use a friction spanner (micro-tools), or grab with pliers if you don't mind the damage.
Good luck!

From memory botht eh Old and New F1 finders come apart the same way - you need to remove the eyepiece and the rings around the release pins as described above

Inside the finder, through the chrome eyepiece there is a black mask. Carefully remove that mask to reveal the last screws to remove.

You are all correct the screws were under the eye piece mask .I just never thought Canon would cover them in metal .Thanks everyone
