I'm selling my Canon EOS A2 autofocus 35mm camera. Includes body cap, Tamrac camera strap, original box and instruction booklet (although this can be found online).

This camera was notorious for the photographer having to depress a lock button before you could switch the camera's mode of operation (such as turning the camera on, or switching between aperture and shutter speed priority modes, for example). These would frequently break, and it was a horrible design. I sent it off for a conversion, and now there is no need to depress the button, and the selection dial behaves exactly as you would expect on any DSLR. It is a fantastic camera, but I have no Canon EF lenses anymore. I really want this camera to keep on going, because I can tell it has years left to go.

I'd like $55, plus whatever the shipping charges come out to be. (This seems to be only a few bucks more than the going rate on a certain auction site, thanks to the addition of the camera strap and the dial modification.) I'll default to USPS parcel post unless you'd prefer a different carrier or service. I'll accept Paypal or a money order if you'd prefer. Proceeds go to continuing to feed my film and darkroom addiction. Thanks for looking!

Yes indeedy. That mode control dial was the EOS 5/ A2's most reviled Achilles Heel: prone to breaking/stripping at the very worst of times and leaving photographers, like me, without a working camera for weeks and weeks while it sits there "waiting to be seen"!
Mine was repaired twice but the technician said at the second repair, "it will never be a reliable thing on this camera". Then the back cover latch broke, then the lens release button. The camera was summarily dumped after many years service while Canon's super trooper EOS 1N has outlived it at least twice.

Update: I have found the eBay listing for the modification I had performed on this camera again:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-Eos-A2-A2E-mode-dial-repair-/170397825690

As you can see, the modification is now being offered for more than the price I'm offering. It is important to note that it's a ball-bearing/detente modification, not a repair to the original poor design.

Also, I have taken pictures for those who may be interested:

A great camera, known as the EOS 5 in most of the world. I've had one since 1998 - my first serious camera. I also had to have the dial replaced, apart from that I never had a problem with it.
