Canon EOS 6D with Nikon manual lenses

I am looking to replace my unreliable Nikons with a Canon 6D.

I have an old lens adapter that will allow me to mount my Nikon lenses on a Canon camera. I just don't know how reliably Canons digital cameras will work with them.

Anyone have any experience with using other makers lenses with these cameras?
 
Assuming you're comfortable working with manual focus and manual diaphragm control, you still need to watch out for possible collision between the mirror and the back of the adapted lens. Many lenses will be OK in this respect, some will not:

You said you have an adapter which means you don't have a Canon body? If that the case wouldn't it be better to just buy another Nikon body?
 
It should be a non-issue...the Nikon F mount flange focus distance is 46.5mm, and the Olympus OM mount flange focus distance is 46.0mm, while the Canon EF mount flange focus distance is 44mm,
I have zero issues in mounting and using OM lenses on EF cameras, so the Nikon F mount lenses should not have a problem either.

Fotodiox (among others) offers a F Mount SLR lens to Canon EOS (EF, EF-S) Mount adapter, for example
 
I never owned Nikon DSLR. By the irony it was more expensive for our family than Canon DSLR.
So we purchased open box Canon 500D in 2009. Now, in 2019 camera works as new. It has something like 150K of shutter release counts.
I also had Canon 5D with tens of thousands pictures taken and with my second 5D MKII now. Eventually I might replace it with Canon RP full frame mirroless, if price is going to be affordable.

As many, after getting Canon 5D I have tried numerous manual focus, film only era lenses on it. To be honest, it was waste of time and money. It just doesn't work old fashion way, but with AF points confirmation adapters. And old SLRs glass sucks on Canon DLSRs.
Yet, main advantage of Canon EOS EF system is in its AF lenses. Just sell of all of the Nikon glass and get 6D as the kit with Canon 24-105 F4 IS L and get 50 1.8 or 40 2.8.
 
Have you considered a mirrorless camera body?

I have many Nikon film cameras, and getting a Canon lens isn't too big of an issue.

I am tempted by the Nikon D800 however, but not by Nikons quality and reliability over the last 20 years!
 
Forget about the 6D. It is inferior to my D1x with daylight images! Has anyone had any issues with the D800?

ridiculous.. Nobody's slr primes rival typical recent mirrorless, whose kit lenses have the advantages of not needing to be designed to accommodate flapping mirrors....are closer to sensors, Biogon-like or Leica RF-like.

I was thinking the same thing...
Nikon stuff is really good.
 
Should mention that neither Nikon nor Canon has built slr lenses that rival their mirrorless lenses. That'd be technically impossible.
 
Perhap's my reply was a little to harsh. I know that most modern name-brand lenses are suppose to technically rival the old primes I use, but my complaints center around their subjective renderings.

I prefer the look of the old primes.

I recently purchased a Nikon D300s ($120), which I will use until I can purchase a D700 at a reasonable price.
