The camera keeps a roll count, it also can record all the soothing info which can be downloaded to a computer. Each roll is imprinted with a number which you match up with the downloaded data. Pretty neat feature.

Yes but the count can be reset as I recall, and only goes to 999 before "rolling back"

That cable is super hard to come by, I have both the cable AND a 1V and won't give up either

Oh and you need a computer running windows 95...

The camera is in such an unused condition I believe the roll count, I also know the person I bought it from which helps! I have to find a cable, haven't even started to look for one yet. Is eBay the best place to look?

As for a Win 95 computer, I'm sure I can conjure myself up or one at least one that as a VM.

Yea eBay, around $100-$200 roughly...

Good luck!

Oh, ES-E1 is the cable name

I have not seen the cable available anywhere in the six or so years I've been watching. The software is readily available from Canon, however.

I've seen that software w/cable go for 160.00usd before
You used to be able to source the software from the Canon Japan site but that doesn't solve the cable issue.

The software (with the only update) easily runs under Windows XP

Marc!

Oh you might be right about that I forget now. I haven't turned my "EOS Laptop" on since I printed all the data sheets out in January of 2011. But I've been shooting a bunch now so I should print out new sheets soon and I'll check.

As a service I'll connect and print and mail data sheets out to people for B&W film trade  any B&W film, 120 preferred but 35mm/4x5/70mm accepted

Getting hold of the cable is not so urgent, I will keep an eye out for one. As for the software I'll manage to get that running no matter what OS it is suitable for

I've been using my 1V for a couple of months now, the first rolls of film have been developed and I am really pleased with the results. I love using the camera, ergonomically it works for me. The camera has even been christened in the Sea of the Hebrides when it went for an unintentional swim, after drying off it continued on working. Thanks again to all of you for helping me with the decision to buy it.

Great to hear! Mine survived a hurricane and a 20 foot wave of sea water crashing down on me, so I'm sure it will be fine, but try not to do that too often haha. Glad you're happy.

Where can the software be downloaded from? I just bought a 1V and have an XP netbook. Just cable and software required......

It is on the web, on the canon site somewhere, or one of us can supply it. It runs fine under windows 7, even under windows 7 virtualized on a mac with vmware fusion.

Good luck getting the cable though...

Canon EOS 1v Software & Cable

I know this is an old thread but if someone should land here, there is an alternative to the Canon Cable & Software apx $150.00 USD. Works with Windows 7.

Interesting find. Now I'll have to review the extra custom settings to see if the added functionality is worth $150 to me.
