Hello!
I recently acquired my moms old Canon AE-1 Program. It has worked perfectly, I’ve had no issues until today. I tried to use a cable release shutter for the first time. After screwing it in, I triggered the cable. Nothing happened. I tried using the normal shutter button, still wouldn’t nothing. I switched to the self timer mode, and it didn’t even start the beep countdown. I put in a fresh battery, although I don’t think that is the problem, since the LED’s on the viewfinder are still lighting up. The advance lever had already been cocked before the malfunction and is still behaving the same way it would if it was cocked and ready to shutter. I have done hours of research reading old blog posts and YouTube videos, which lead be to opening the bottom of the camera. I used a screwdriver to nudge the manual shutter release. The metal pieces moved normally, but it didn’t trigger a shutter. Based on research, the symptoms mimic an electromagnet issue, however I don’t understand why the attempt of the cable release would effect the electromagnet. If absolutely necessary, I’m open to taking the camera to a repair shop, although I live in Maine and it seems the closest shop is In Massachusetts. If anyone has recommendations of shops that I could ship to, I’d love to know.
Thanks in advance!
