I have a Canon 7sZ rangefinder camera that I would like to work on, specifically removing its top cover to clean up the rangefinder mirror/prism assembly. I have the service manual for the 7s, but the 7s vs. 7sZ flash syn are different. The 7s simply unthreads, but I can’t figure out how to remove the one on a 7sZ. Any help would be appreciated.

I am pretty certain that you will need to buy or DIY a "flexiclamp" wrench:

Is this flash sync slotted inside the recess? So that you basically pull the recessed barrel out that sits around the sync pin? Or maybe that whole sync pin assembly unscrews.

It could be any of the questions mentioned, but I have no answers, which is why I was hoping that the author of the TH had got them from someone

It appears that Canon had at least 2 versions of the part of that 7sZ part:

if yours has no slots cut to allow the use of a spanner wrench, and a flexiclamp-type wrench didn't work, the only other thing I can think of is to try a rubber pad-type tool:

grazie per la risposta; Il mio connettore del flash è come la foto a sinistra, quindi non ha "prese di forza" per una chiave, quindi penso che proverò con i gommini che hai suggerito.

Has anyone figured out best way to unscrew the port?

Flexi clamp would work only if outer ring can be used for unscrewing. If port is the same as in Canon 7 then actually internal brass part needs to be unscrewed?

Isn't there a slot deep inside? Maybe I am misremembering. But I think that I can see it in your photo. A slot at about 5 o'clock and 11 o'clock at the bottom of the flash sync rod. Take a long thin screwdriver that fits down there and unscrew it- standard counterclockwise. Or carve one from a wooden chopstick.

Nope, no slots at all it's possible to grab outer ring with a flexi clamp - and I managed to do it but it just turns, does not unscrew.
