Real LTM, which the Canon uses, is a hybrid. 39mm (not 40) by 26 tpi (threads per inch).

That adapter ring would be great. Unfortunately, according to the listing “Item does not ship to United States.” And for some reason the "Contact Seller" button doesn't work for me on that particular listing. Huh?

Which darkroommike did properly (26tpi); And, since the OP seemed assured of 40mm diameter, it was useful to correct that as well.
Soviet lenses, that assumed 26tpi approx equal to 1mm, seem to mount without problem (leaving aside the rear element of the J12).
Read the thread's title.
He's not asking about the mount.

I'm the OP. I know the lens is LTM, which is 39mm x 40tpi. That's not my question, as E. von Hoegh correctly points out. I'm asking about the filter-mounting thread.

Now I see the "doesn't post to US". And after all the complaints about US sellers not shipping overseas.

I can, however, get to the contact seller page after signing into ebay UK site.

Interesting. It seems that on the UK site one must log in for the “Contact Seller” button to hecome active. The US site behaves differently - the button is always active and takes you to the login page if you aren’t already logged in.

Thanks for the tip, I’ve sent the seller a message.

I also contacted them. Years ago I had SRB make me one. Like a fool I sold it.

darkroommike has it right in post #4. The lens mount is 39mm x 26tpi. The filter threads will be a finer pitch.

Right you are, Jim and Mike, 26tpi. That was a total brain cramp on my part, I was mixing the front thread and the rear.

I believe it is .5. BTW filterfind is a good source for info and filters. Also some of the the Fuji digitals use 40mm F filters

I've got a screw in hood designed for a Fuji digital on my Canon 50mm f1.8 LTM and it fits perfectly.

As said, the filters for the Fuji should mount fine. I also have modern 40mm filters from several makers and they all work on the Canon lenses.

It's still worth to buy the Canon original slim filters if you can find them as unlike the third party filters they do not interfere why the original plastic push on caps and original clamp on lens hood.

This is especially helpful with the 50mm f2 which certainly benefits from the lens hood.

After 20 minutes going through the Fuji web site I couldn't find a single lens on offer with a 40mm filter thread, and their lens accessories page showing all the hoods was non-useful. Can anyone give me a part number, or tell me which lens takes (took?) 40mm accessories?

Added info: After further poking around it looks like what I want is something that fits the X10 cameras. Is that correct? Something like this https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/845905-REG/vello_lhf_x10_fuji_x10_lens_hood.html ?

I have a lens hood that fits my 50mm 1.8 LTM Canon that says "LH - X10" on it -- so you've got the correct type (40mm F). Mine is a no name from ebay which also takes 49mm filters which is handy since I have a bunch from my OM 1 lenses. It came with a 58mm lens caps that fits on it -- might be worth asking B and H if it come with a cap or what size to get. BTW Marumi makes a UV filter in 40F which is available at Filterfind and fits -- I have one on my 50mm f 1.8 (before the lens hood).

The hood from B&H (see post #21) is a perfect fit, thanks for the tips and discussion. It's similar to the one jgoody mentioned in that it takes standard screw-in filters, 52mm in this case.
