one of my students has an old AE-1 cannon camera.

it seems to be stuck in self timer mode, any one have any suggetions as to how one would disengage the self timer.

the shutter fires as it should when the self timer kicks in; however, it continues to remain in self timing mode.

any suggestions, other than take it in the the repair shop.?

thanks

Ann,
The self timer and most everything else are controlled electronically on that camera. The shutter release and self timer are adjacent switches. I've seen this happen when the ST switch becomes disengaged or bent.
The top cover needs to come off to get at either switch.
I would discourage you from attempting to fix it, there are several hidden screws and internal indexing marks.
Where is the camera? State?

That's lucky. Atlanta seems to have quite a few camera repair folks.
