Ive decided to sell my Canham Traditional (wood) 7x17 camera. It is a beautiful, almost-new looking camera and Ive been very happy with it. I thought of selling it about 2 years ago, but cancelled the sale. But in the past 4 years I havent used this camera, preferring my 8x10 Arca, so Im offering it again.
This is the Black Walnut version of the Canham with the 36-inch bellows, and it accepts the standard Sinar lens boards. I purchased the camera from Quality Camera in Atlanta around 2005the serial number is 20545. Talking to Keith Canham, he thinks he made this in 2004 or so, Specs for this camera can be found on Keith Canhams site at http://www.canhamcameras.com/larger.htm.
In addition to the stock camera as shipped from Keith Canham, this sale includes
The original Canham ground glass has been replaced with a GVB Groundglass. Geert van der Broeck manufactured this ground glass in Belgium around 2008 (Geert was known as Argus here on APUG). Unlike the standard Canham ground glass, this GVB ground glass has an etched one cm grid, which Geert called the Lumigrid option. The grid is very faintly etched into the glass and does not come off with cleaning, like a pencil-drawn grid will do. The original Canham ground glass is also included with this sale, so it can be returned to factory specs.
Canham manufactures these cameras to accept the common Sinar lens boards. I use the Arca 141mm system, so I had Keith Canham manufacture an additional Black Walnut front standard to accept Arca-Swiss 141mm lens boards. This custom Arca 141 standard is included, along with the stock Sinar front standard, so with these 2 standards you can use either the common Sinar lens boards, or the newer Arca 141mm lens boards. Note: NO lens boards of either type are included with this sale.
Also included are three (3) AWB Walnut 7x17 film holders, dated 2006, in perfect mechanical and cosmetic condition. I bought these as spares to my original Cherry wood holders. I sold those Cherry wood holders about the time I quit using this camera, so these Walnut holders are new. Specs for these holders can be found on Alan W. Brubaker's site at http://www.filmholders.com/filmho1.html.
Mechanical condition: Mint. This camera has been gently used and carefully stored. The bellows is clean and tight, with no wrinkles.
Cosmetic condition: Excellent, with little signs of use, except as followsa) There is slight denting on the front edge of the wooden rear standard where it contacts the metal rails holding the front standard when the camera is folded, and b) Two (2) additional 1/4x20 threaded holes were professionally machined into the metal tripod mount on the base to allow better mounting to a tripod. I used these additional 1/4x20 holes to attach a Really Right Stuff rail, for quick mounting on an Arca-style tripod head. Note: the RRS mounting rail is NOT included in this sale.
Price: $4000 for the entire kit. (In 2010 Keith Canham was selling this camera for $5752 and Alan Brubaker sells the film holders today for $465 each. Add in the ground glass and Arca front standard, and you would pay around $7300 today) And 3% of the selling price will be donated to APUG.
Shipping: FREE to APUG Subscribers in the USA (all 50 states). Others will be charged shipping at my cost.
Payment: I no longer accept PayPal, so plan on a Certified Bank Check or USPS Money Order. I can make other arrangements for long-time established APUG Subscribers that Ive dealt with before. All payments must be accepted and cleared by my bank prior to shipment.
