The great landscapes are just north of Sault Ste. Marie; turn left instead of right. In Sault Ste. Marie, go to Crimson Ridge Golf Club and ask to take a shot from the 18th hole looking east.
Between Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury (about 3 hours of driving) there are bits and pieces of interesting landscape but no great vistas, occasional small lakes on the way. Also one or two interesting old abandoned houses (at least they were still there a year ago).
You will note from any map that Sudbury is a fair way in from any water. There are some nice views in the city (which contains over 300 lakes within the city limits), including some industrial shots of the nickel smelter. This is where I am located, send me a pm about your itinerary, how much time you have and when you are going to be in Sudbury.
From Sudbury to Parry Sound (about an hour and a half), there is typical northern Ontario bush and Cambrian shield rock; beautiful to someone who lives here, not necessarily photogenic. The highway is a distance in from the lake and any photographic treks would require side trips off the main highway. Parry Sound to Toronto is two and a half hours and generally four-lane or six lane highway; again, to get to the lake would require going off and back on the highway.
Getting from the southbound highway around to the Bruce Peninsula is a bit of drive. You may wish to go through Espanola on the way to South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island and take the ferry to the Peninsula, and drive down along the lake there.
How much time do you have?
Make sure that you check the scale of the map you are looking at. Southern Ontarians do not realize that the map of northern Ontario is on a much larger scale and make incredible blunders when determining driving times.
