I got a TTL flash cord for my Pentax 645. But it's near useless coiled-about 18 inches. Uncoiled it would probably be about 3 or 4 feet. Is there a way to uncoil it?

No way to uncoil them. Cut off both ends a couple inches back and splice in a section of flat cord, using soldering iron and shrink tubing.

Yes that's what I thought about doing-cut and splice in a few feet of straight wire. But I'm not too good at soldering the small wire. If it was 12 or 14 gauge, that would be easy.

You'll just have to get good at it. It's not that hard. Just time and patience.

tie one end to the bumper of your car and the other to your doorknob, the key is to accelerate rapidly...

I'm afraid I'll rip the bumper off my car.

I figured it out. I strecthed(and uncoiled)about 10-12 inches at a time and held it over the hot stove burner. Then, while still stretched, wrapped it in a wet rag to cool it rapidly. It doesn't look pretty, but the cord is much more useful now.
