Can scanner types like plustek 8100 take "full frame"

Hello, does anyone know which types of scanners, like the stand alone Plustek style or maybe even cheaper, can do full "rebate" scans? You guys remember filing down neg holders right?

I am currently using a flatbed for my 4x5&8x10's and 120. I occasionally do wet scanning in order to get the full frame borders.

But I would like to use a dedicated 35mm for quick scans but would like to get the entire image.

Can one file down the neg holders on these types of scanners? I'm just using the Plustek as an example. I'm looking into those and Pacific Image types or anything that you can suggest.

I tried doing a scan of 35mm by laying the film on the glass on my Epson V600. It seems to come out as sharp as when I used the standard film holder.

About the shot and process: Ektachrome 64 35mm taken with a Nikonos IVa in the 1980's. Scanned with an Epson V600 and processed in Lightroom 6 in Oct, 2019. COlor correction applied to the scanner software (Epsonscan) I removed the film from the its plastic slide mount and laid it flat on the glass platen and closed the scanner cover. I was able to replace the film in its plastic slide holder and snap it shut without problem. Note sure how this would work with a cardboard slide holder.

This is great. I've done a little more research and looking at my bank statement. Ha! I have a nice lightbox and a tripod. I'll start looking in to dslr scanning. Looks like you can just get neg holders on the cheap. I can probably canabilize some and file it out or something like that.

I just watched a vid where a guy built a rig to hold his lens upright by using some pvc pipes so no tripod needed. That's what I really want to avoid is something like a large setup like that.

Everyone needs a Nikonos! I'm looking for a point and shoot UW camera to take to the beach and Hawaii.

Eric: I haven't slot with my Nikonos IVa in years but still have it. I used the 35mm lens which is the only lens that works above and below water without distortion. Underwater though, the lens changes to a 50mm view equivalent due to refraction through the lens between water and air. Everything becomes about 1/3 closer. A wider angle lens is better underwater. But it distorts if you try to use in above water. So I put up with the lower wide angelness of the 35mm lens since I shoot above and below water usually at the same time. Of course lenses are interchangeable. Just don;t try doing that underwater. .

The 35mm lens is very sharp, I think better than my regular Nikon lenses. It would be a great camera to take to the beach and Hawaii and use underwater. I used it for that as well as in the rain, parasailing, boating, at the beach, in the surf, swimming in a pool, white water rafting. It's built like a tank and the lens is specially protected against scratches. You can probably get a Iva or V for about $100 with the 35mm lens. Just practice a little at home before you go. Make sure the rubber seals are good when you buy them as a leak will ruin the camera. Hawaii's great. Have a great time. My wife and I did a cruise around the islands and it was one of our best trips. We also stayed in Oahu 4 extra days which was wonderful.

The Lomography DigitaLIZA 35mm scanning mask allows scanning the whole stripe with the sprocket holes - there are masks for 110 and 120 too. The film stripe lays perfectly flat in the mask.

From reviews of this I've read, there is still apparently appreciable bowing of the film, especially with 120.

Looks like I need to figure out how to invert the images if I do DSLR scanning for color negs. B&W don't look hard but dang, new Lightroom at $120 a year, plus the Negative scan software plugin for $100....dang. Not looking cheap

Bummer, I ordered the Lomograpy holder so at least I can use my Epson flatbed. I can do that in the interim, but I want to try the DSLR scanning. The turn off is having to get all this software to convert the color negs to positive. Looks like yes, I can do it with Lightroom,but then thats just taking time from scanning to more time on software.

My Nikon V ED allows a little rebate for unmounted film and it will (if I want) include a little slide mount....this is a simple matter of adjustment.
