A couple weeks ago, I found an old twinflex camera at a thrift store, and upon recent inspection, I found it takes "univex *00 film." Information is very scarce, but just looking at the spools, it's clearly its own thing. Anyone know anything interesting about the format?

and this was the only thing I could find about the format. http://www.vintagephoto.tv/univex00.shtml

The link you posted included this link, which tells you a bit more: http://www.vintagephoto.tv/univexaf.shtml
The film is similar to 828 film: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/828_film
I did find a universal camera link that mentioned using 828 in a different camera. still, the 00 spools have this triangle on the top to hold them in the camera, I have an 828 roll as well, and while that and the 00 are the same height (leading me to realize respooling 35mm films is a possibility , but the 828 heads are bigger than the 00 rolls. I can't tell you about the center of the spool right now because my 828 is an undeveloped but exposed roll.

Did Gevaert make Univex 00 film from the start?

Until 1964 Gevaert and Agfa were independant of each other, even unrelated.

With "from the start", I meant the introduction of type 00 film in 1936, as the shown Gevaert box was seemingly post-war. Sorry for the confusion.

this source says Gevaert started making transparencies in 1947 https://www.photomemorabilia.co.uk/Colour_Darkroom/Early_Gevaert.html
and I guess Gevaert was formed in 1890, but univex started in 1935 https://www.britannica.com/topic/Agfa-Gevaert-NV

You misunderstood:
"Ultrachrome" does not mean color transparency film, but panchromatic b&w negative film.

Yea, I guess I don't really know my history of film manufacturing or all the jargon yet.

Agfa and others employed the suffix "-color" for all their colour films nonwithstanding negative or reversal.
The suffix "-chrom" or "-chrome" was used by all manufacturers to emphasize spectral sensitisation stretching more in the direction of red.

Kodak introduced the suffix "-chrome" in the new meaning of colour reversal film. The success of Kodachrome in relative but also in absolute terms, Kodak then by far was marketleader in sales, made competitors over time to take over the Kodak terminology. Some manufacturers never did.

Nonetheless Kodak themselves did not introduce a strict division in terminololgy. See their B&W film Verichrome.

Sadly there is so little Univex *00 and pre agfa gevaert history that I don't know if that can be answered.

There is no longer interest in own history at the industry. Lately even Agfa gave away their Gevaert archive.

Funny how I actually found a blog about that trying to find anything about Univex films... Makes little sense.

Also, there's Lomochrome- which is a color negative film.

Perhaps you can find a copy of The Univex Story by Cynthia A Repinski in a major library or online. It is an excellent account of the company which produced the Mercury camera and many others over a decade or two. I don't have time at the moment to research this further.

It's on amazon- a little pricey though. Plus I've been having difficulty getting myself to read since right after spring break 2018.
