Soldered to a Metz battery holder, but I have no idea what external power supply it would be for. Do you know? Each blade is approx 4mm wide.

Looks like a "Deans" connector. I have used Deans connectors for secure high amperage, low voltage, battery connections. If that is on the battery, then whoever put that on used the wrong end. The battery needs to have the female connector. Risk of short and sparks and fire too high when the male end is on the battery.

No, the end pictured is on the flash side, which would then plug into the external power, so it should be correct.
