This is unbelievable......I sent a Hasselblad 201F for repair last year to Germany and recently a Leica R6.2 for repair....and wait for it......BOTH cameras have been 'lost' = stolen in the hands of couriers......the Leica via DHL Germany and the Hasselblad I cant even remember who the company was! this is unbelievable!!! what is going on!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your experience. Yes these thing happen unfortunately. A courier is in a good position, if he/she is so inclined, to take a camera. I presume you reported this to the courier company and it has (a ) investigated and (b ) offered compensation

Unfortunately it is no different to the odd rogue postman who steals people's post/mail

thank you for responding. The issue is being investigated by the people who have repaired my camera and sent it on with DHL. Let's see what happens. At the very least I expect to be refunded for the repair work they undertook.

DHL+ Damaged Hijacked or Lost. Been my personal experience. They "lost" a Jobo processor I sold and sent DHL.

Lost isn't the same as stolen. Frustrating as your experience is, I'd hold back on judgement.
I hope your cameras turn up, and if they don't, they were at least insured so you'll be refunded their actual resale value. I assume the shipments were insured, right?

My Hasselblad was stolen yes,.....now my Leica was (in the tracking) initially taking a long time to come from Germany....then it was reported as the package being 'damaged'....then they reported as the camera not being inside the package....thus stolen!
The 'claim' can be made by the person sending the package not the recipient so I spoke to the repair people, whom I will not name until a resolution is found, and let's see what happens

dont forget this is THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENS TO ME sending two very expensive cameras to GERMANY!!!!!!
I sent a Hasselblad 201F....lost/stolen.....it was 'signed' as received on the other end and the repair person said he never got it
and now this......

I see; yes, that does seem a little too coincidental.

Apparently, getting then sent back from Germany, right? Which would make sense if there's foul play at work, because a local DHL worker might be aware of the sender's activity and hence the good chance that valuable stuff in their parcels.

It's a really shitty situation, that's for sure. I'm sorry for your loss.

This is sad and a bad blow for the OP. I am hoping for a better out come.

Thanks for the information. To be fair the camera repair shop have stepped it up and copied me into correspondence

Good luck, I really hope you can reclaim either the cameras or equivalent value.

Tbf it should be in the camera shop's best interest to solve this issue if they rely on their customers using regular DHL.

thats absolutely correct. So far they are helping me out. We shall see.....if this ends badly I will see what steps I take.

+1

Some years ago I bought a rare lens at a very low price from a seller on eBay.de. He shipped via DHL. The lens didn't arrive timely so I checked the tracking report. It said that I'd refused delivery. No way, I really wanted the lens. After I contacted the seller, he shook DHL's little tree. Very hard. Eventually the truth came out. The lens had never left Germany, was in a DHL facility. DHL wanted to be paid again to deliver it. I really wanted the lens so I told the seller to pay DHL again and that I'd reimburse him. After further tree-shaking I got the lens and DHL refunded the second payment.

Crooks? I'm not sure, but certainly incompetent.

Oh, man...so sorry this has happened. Keeping my fingers crossed for a positive resolution!

Most of the shipping services seem to be understaffed and overworked beyond being just plain incompetent. I have had deliveries that were clearly marked as direct signature required that were left at the door. FedEx, UPS and the USPS consistently delivers packages addressed to my daughter to the apartment building across the street, so much that they now have a policy of refusing the deliveries. I once had UPS deliver a clearly damaged package that required a signature, they just left it at the door and scooted away. The oddest thing that has happened was a FedEx package (from BH Photo) that arrived damaged--and had another sender's package inside along with my goods!

About 3 years ago I send a Distagon C 50T* and two A12 backs (all Hasselblad) for repair to the Netherlands (Den Haag) by Belgian post.
The parcel left Belgium the regular way but never arrived in the Netherlands, it got 'lost' on transport which is hardly 120 km!
It fell off the truck...
Belgian post refunded me, are you sitting firmly?, for exactly €72.-!

DHL is a bit of a shitshow. I haven't had theft, I think, but lots of incompetence and negligence. The don't pay well so motivation of the the employees is low. Other companies aren't any better though.
You could post about the lost cameras in the various forums, maybe they show up somewhere to be sold. Of course you need to be able to prove they were yours for that to be any help.

Serial numbers and invoices help.

A lot of people who work for shipping services - the ones who actually do the deliveries - get paid on a piecework basis. The more they deliver, the more they get paid.
And they actually compete amongst themselves for favoured routes.
All of which leads to pressures for low quality, high volume work.

In post 5 I should have made it clear that I don' think that the OP's situation is funny at all! I've been there, I know. They lost a Jobo processor of mine and then later they ran over a package of mine that had a scanner in it. They just dropped it at the front door and ran. I found it with tire tracks on it. A couple of months ago I ordered a Horseman camera from Japan and the seller sent it DHL. I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I was lucky it wasn't DHL'ed.
