Can anyone recommend a service tech (in NZ, obviously ) who could give my beloved Spotmatic a 40 year overhaul?

Try Camera Repairs Co. NZ in Timaru. But the Spotmatic is a very old model now. Still, they'd put the feelers out for parts as needed.

There's Phil Jacobs in Wellington (Petone). I've not used him myself, but that is where a lot of people here get directed.

Edit: Another I've seen mentioned is Rainers in Tawa

I've got some Mamiya stuff in with Phil Jacobs at the moment, seems a decent chap, comes across pretty straight up. No idea what the repairs are going to be like but I assume he'll do a good job.

I should probably see about giving him the family (pre-spotmatic) Pentax for a CLA now I'm thinking about it...

another plug for phil in Petone, sent him an old mamiya with broken speed adjuster disk. he made a new one. great communication and service..the communication part really important as we are generally crap at this here.

I got the backs back from Phil Jacobs about a week ago. He did a fantastic job, I will be definitely sending more stuff to him!

Hi Chris, what backs did you get repaired and exactly what did you get repaired? I've got two Mamiya RZ67 120 film backs that have buggered light seals, wondering if sending them to Phil would be worth it, do you have his email address by chance?

My father is 85 and quite disabled. I have been sending him old cameras I have picked up and he has been following this process with good success. It is a bit fiddly and time consuming but you can't damage the backs and will probably have some fun while having a go

Thanks Alistair, had a read of the article and it seems that there's nothing difficult about the repair, just time and getting hold of the right materials. I will start by cleaning the 2 backs I have and keep an eye out for some suitable foam to glue in place.
