Surf was excellent over here today BTW.

I was out your way for vacation a month ago, my daughter and I took surfing lessons. My daughter could live very comfortably in the Haleiwa world, me too.

Trying to talk the wife into moving but that Colorado girl isn't into a dot of land in a big ocean.

Yep, plenty of people get "rock fever" especially those that like to pack up and drive to another state for a weekend. The key is to develop a relationship with the ocean, do something that involves it: surfing paddling even just swimming, that way it seems like a playground and not a barrier. We have plenty of great hikes and mountains too, we had snow on Mauna Loa in May which was quite odd.
Oh yeah, surf was good again today, dropping but excellent shape.

Going to work on getting Momma's baby there first, give Momma a reason to go there more often and get into all that fun.

Just wanted to say thanks to all again. I have decided on going the Maxxum 7 route for now, as that was my favorite body and I'm familiar with it, so will probably produce the best shots to start with. My father-in-law is going t send me his Minolta telephoto lenses to use for a while so I can decide what route to go from there before I purchase a lens myself.
Thanks for all the tips.

The Nikon Action Touch is a point&shoot waterproof camera with a very good lens.
It is also ruggedly built and quiet. It auto-focuses out of water and manual-focuses
underwater.

Here along the SoCal coast from Huntington Beach to Ensenada, the most popular in-the-water camera for board surfers, long boarders, kayakers, and shallow scuba divers is the remarkable nikon aw-100 - used by major commercial film folks as well for the same purposes - easy to mount and use on the front of a board:

Otherwise, from beach or shore vantage points use any great long lens - 35mm film camera digital cam combination that can get you to equivalent 400mm - 600mm focal lengths.
