On the 16th, I will give a presentation on the Texas Church Project (Dead Link Removed) to a camera club. We were invited to be a speaker after some members saw our segment on local TV last year about the project. After spending 30-40 minutes talking about the what we do, showing images and the video of us working, discussing film, alternative printing methods and view cameras, we will come to a "question and answer" period. What are the odds that someone will raise their hand and say: "Can you still get film for those?" :D

Hi David,

I wouldn't be surprised if you are asked. But, I also wouldn't be surprised if you were asked why you didn't take the photos with digital cameras. :surprised:

If someone does, you need to have the video clip of Lee cued up from the tv show saying "Digital is the Devil's work" :D .

The more I think about the term Camera Club, the more I think it appropriate. It is a club about cameras and not about photography.

Regards, Art.

Yes! I belong to a "camera club" and one of the biggest complaints from the members (both digital & analog) is that too much time is spent talking about equipment and "techie things".

Yeah... a clip of Lee would be a good response! hahaha :D

Oh, yeah, well, international audience and all that ...

By "we", I meant the project as a group, and "I" drew the assignment.

The more I think about the term Camera Club, the more I think it appropriate. It is a club about cameras and not about photography.

In all fairness, it is the West Texas Photographic Society. From their website:

"The West Texas Photographic Society (WTPS) is a group of photographers ranging from hobbyist to professional; beginners to very experienced. The members meet monthly to share their expertise with one another, whether it be in travel photography, landscape composition, portraiture or darkroom technique."

I apologize for any discomfort my use of the generic term "camera club" may have caused some sensitive apuggers.

Well, this came off last night without a hitch. The group could not have been more attentive or welcoming, and the questions were excellent. After the formal period, I spent some informal time with a few folks who had never seen hand-coated paper (Matt and Mike's pt/pl prints), or the one gentleman who knew what an enlargment was, but not a "contact print". Fortunately, I had one of Matt Magruder's 12x20 negs and its print as an example. One picture really was worth 1000 words.

I hope I can do more of these around the state. It was great fun talking about film, darkrooms and black and white; and showing some good prints to folks.

Congrats on the talk David, glad it was successful. Will there be any highlight photos of the event?
