What are your recommended hard cases or bags for ULF cameras in particular 14x17 cameras.

That is a good question because it is difficult to find cases out there for 14x17. I built my own case (I have rudimentary skills). It does the job but I'm not real happy with it. I had one built for my 8x20 by RoadCases.com. It is a nice case and I'm thinking about having them build one for 14x17. The nice thing is that you can custom build it to your size. For taking the camera away from the car I use a backpack designed to portage kayaks made by Granite Gear. I can hold everything I need and it's comfortable. I got it from REI. If you want more info on it let me know and I will find the model number for you.

I use a big ol’ Pelican case for my 14x17.

I do need a great backpack for my lotus 8x10 camera, 3 or 4 big Sironar-S lenses, etc- what backpack do you recommend? My f/64 backpack really is not great.

I found a place that will make custom cases at a reasonable price from Road Case. Their business is aimed towards musicians and show productions with lights but they are really good cases. I have two cases now. One for my 14x17 and one for my 8x20.

I’ve used a collapsible ice cooler in the past for my 8x10. Maybe you can find one the size that will fit your 14x17? Mine had a collapsible handle and wheels so it was easy to move around.

Try Gator (brand name) gig bags made for mixers. They are well padded and come in an array of different sizes. I am not associated with the Gator company. I use a 2118 (21"X18"X6") for my Korona 11X14 camera and it is perfect. Granted a hardcase will protect a camera better; however, a gig bag is great in the field and much lighter. They are also reasonably priced compared to some camera bags.
