Just wanted to share that my new to me 4x5 Horseman LE (w/ Sironar-N 210 MC lens) arrived today and I was like a 43 year old kid waiting for Santa :D . I had an awesome first-time experience on ebay to boot.

The camera is rock solid, essentially clean as a whistle. All the movements are positive and firm, zero detents very solid. The lens looks as if it could have been taken off the shelf yesterday. I have spent most of the day practicing with exagerated camera perspectives and fixing them on the ground glass with the camera movements, trying to get a feel for how they work. In terms of weight, I will say that my RB that I had with the prism finder was a good primer, a few concessions obviously, but not that bad.

A few things are still needed for a minimum set up before film testing begins with the 4x5, but I am in no hurry. There's much to soak in!

Congrats Chuck. The LE is a good camera with a fine reputation. Have fun and post some pics real soon.

So you're the guy that bought the camera! I was eyeing that too and had my mouse hovering around the Buy It Now button several times on several days. Held off the GAS attack and am glad to see it went to good home.

Regards, Art.

Hi Art,

Oh man :surprised:. That is so crazy! But yes, it does have a good home and I am very happy with it. It was my first ebay purchase and I was very nervous to purchase anything in that way, but it felt right and with an established seller as well.

Don't know if I did it smartly or not but it went like this and in the end I have what I wanted. I started in on the bidding and kept getting automatically outbid by the current high bidder; it was very clear to me that he had made a very high maximum bid, probably close to the reserve price. I reasoned that the high bidder was just as prepared to purchase at the BIN price as I was. So, fearing that the reserve would be met and the BIN price would then disappear, forcing it to go to auction, I decided it was now or never. So I bought it. I was not going to be able to be at the computer the next day to compete for it and the BIN price was about my limit anyway.

I've been practicing with the movements and have fount that the convergence issues are the easiest to fix on the GG. The hardest, I am finding, is when there are multiple subject planes or receeding foregrounds with important near / far relationships to work out.
