I have been receiving emails (spam?) from Calumet about sales and selling and trade ins. Example: The Great Trade-In & Trade-Up Event!

Are they back?

They were bought by the owner of Ritz Photo. I bought something in the Oak Brook store and I'm getting a lot of spam about Ritz's photo printing service.

I thought Ritz went under... but we still have a Ritz store in my area. Is my memory failing or did I not fully understand the story?

Calumet in the U.K are still up and running.

I started to get spammed daily by Ritzpix late last year and have had to set up an email filter just for their crap. Have never had any dealings with them and wish the the worst that the business world has to offer.

Calumet has recently appeared with spam, so they too get the same treatment and wishes.

there are 2 ritz photo ..
one is based in arizona ( i think )
and the other was the giant chain.

the one in arizona is a great store.
there used to be one of the chain stores ( with a boat world attached )
near me, and it sold pro-stuff as well as consumer goods. i kind of miss it ( and calumet ) ...

I used to deal with Calumet quite a bit. They even had a sizable outlet in SF. But once they pretty much abandoned anything "analog" or darkroom gear (and they had a niche on quite a bit of that, including Zone VI, various temp valves, some nice mic you couldn't find anywhere else) - at that point I lost interest in them. Even the camera store right down the street had a way better selection of film than they did, even sheet film. They still sold certain studio supplies like backdrops and lighting, but not competitively. As a business model, putting all their eggs
in one basket probably wasn't the smartest idea. It amounts to lack of "genetic diversity" product-wise. Maybe they had internal problems too.

Sandy Ritz sold Ritz Collectible Cameras a while back, and now it does business under just "Collectible Cameras". They've gone downhill a bit - don't have quite the stock of fun oddball stuff that they used to back when Sandy was running the show.
